A score above 100 is considered a strong score that will meet the English proficiency requirements for most U.S. colleges.
However, different schools might include specific score requirement for each section.
If you score 100 or higher on the internet-based TOEFL or 600 or higher on the paper-based exam, your demonstration of English language skills should be strong enough for admission to any college in the country. On the other hand, a score of 60 or lower will restrict your options drastically.
The iBT consists of a 4-hour test in 4 sections which cover:

1. Identify important words first
Vocabulary level is critical for the reading section. You will need to recognize essential words in the passages. Look for the main idea in each passage and make a note of it to help you answer some of the questions.
2. Read questions first
Examine the questions that will be asked regarding a passage, then scan it for any details that can aid in your response.
3. Practice and practice again
Use a practice exam to hone your abilities early in identifying key vocabulary words, the primary idea, and conclusions.
1. Practice conversing in English only
The easier it is to communicate in English alone, the simpler it will be to comprehend the recording material. To improve your listening abilities, pick various topics and watch online videos.
2. Listen carefully
Remove distractions and pay close attention to what is being stated on the test because you will only hear the recorded content once. Learn to focus and remember what you hear in a little amount of time by using practice exams.
3. Listen for the most critical information
You won’t be able to change your selections, so pick one and proceed as soon as possible. Both types of questions will be posed. Pay close attention to what is being said and listen for both key ideas and specifics.
1. Take your time before you start talking
In this section, reacting as rapidly as possible without having much time to think is crucial. You are also advised to use the allotted amount of time to provide a thorough response.
2. Learn the correct pronunciations of words before the test
You will lose points if you pronounce words incorrectly, so try to perfect your pronunciation beforehand.
3. Keep the language you use familiar
Use expressions and words that you’re familiar with to give confident and well-framed responses.
1. Learn spelling and grammar rules
Remember that you won’t be able to use software to check your spelling, so you’ll need to be certain that the words you use are spelled correctly.
2. Develop an outline as the first step
Before you begin writing your essay, make a plan, and allow time for editing.
3. Use language well
Try to write clearly and provide examples to back up your arguments. You should do the practice tests before the exam to ensure that you can answer the questions and memorize the phrases for establishing connections and transitions.
